March 20, 2010 - Form Practice

It has rained all last weekend but we finally enjoyed good weather starting Wednesday.  Warm in the 60s, sunny and light winds.  Dragon Flight practiced both Saturday and Sunday mornings.

My son-in-law Don came along Saturday morning and took these great pictures with the Digital Rebel.

I got up early and was at the airport by 7AM.  We arrived at Carroll County Airport at 8AM and met the other Dragon Flight members.  We briefed, then went flying.

I was #2.  Here we're just about to do a formation takeoff with #1, Mike R.

Bill R. in the RV-7 was #3 and Dave H -- aka Pablo -- was #4 in his RV-3.

Here I'm in close trail formation.

Now Pablo is moving forward to take the lead.

Breaking to the right.  We'll end up in a loose trail formation.

It looks like sunset, but is actually around 8:30 AM.  There wasn't a cloud in th esky and the sun was bright.  It was brutal on the eyes when lead passed through the sun in a turn.

I'm #4 now and we're in a diamond formation.

Landing at Carroll County.  You can see the other Dragon flight airplanes on the runway.

We debriefed, then everyone went their own way.  Don and I headed back to Essex Skypark.  We didn't land though.  We just marked on top then headed east across the bay and then south to Cambridge for breakfast at the airport restaurant with other Essex Skypark pilots.  We're trying to get a monthly "breakfast fly-out" thing started.

That's the Chesapeake Bay bridge off my right wing.
